What can I say? I think we’ve found our new favourite designs for boys and girls with the edgy kids styles coming from Californian kids fashion brand, Omamimini.
Los Angeles based Omamimini have been going about their business and it’s all about the most ultra-cool, extremely wearable, kids’ pieces we’ve come across in a long time.
Founded by Russian born Ola Omami, who loves all things Japanese and the Californian sunshine, the neutral shades and twisted shapes offer up a kid sized spin on the rock ‘n’ roll fashion of Rick Owens (who is also based in L.A. of course).Inspired by Omami’s young daughter, Omamimini supremely comfortable too, but without the extreme luxe price tag. The shapes, cuts and detailing show attention to the minutiae usually reserved for adult collections and high-end brands; but with an edginess never seen in the usual list of mini-me posh kids brands.
There’s no traditional-twee here. The collection is about soft, quality fabrics; all made in the USA, relaxed asymmetrical t-shirts and drop crotch leggings, distressed denim and vintage washes. Our favourite pieces include the chambray denim mechanic’s jumpsuit, and the layered, wrap around t-shirt in washed out neutral shades with triangular split neckband. For girls who like it a bit more feminine, there are floaty gingham dresses in charcoal and coral or boxy jackets.
Boys’ pieces are particularly perfect for the young hipster who likes to lead the way in the fashion stakes, and work just as well for his staunchly anti-princess sister. My only criticism of this brand is why stop at age 8! I have a very upset 10 year old who is very jealous of her younger brother’s drop crotch leggings and asymmetrical around t-shirt. And so am I.
Surely this is one to watch for all our retailer friends and we can’t wait for AW16! A must buy brand for fashionable youngsters.
