Shan and Toad is the fairy tale-titled boutique sprinkling their unique selection of fashion forward clothing for children across the globe.
Carefully curated by passionate fashion lover and mother to four girls, Shana Laub, we are loving Shan and Toad’s dose of high end European style children’s fashion and accessories. Focussing on luxury and cutting edge brands, the range covers special occasions to being the coolest kid in the playground.
Children’s brands include ranges by the world’s top designers like Little Marc Jacobs, Junior Gaultier and Rykiel Enfant as well as independent children’s labels like Hucklebones, Pale Cloud, Bobo Choses, and Mini Rodini. And never standing still, new to the boutique this season we have Stella McCartney, Paade, Lamantine and How to Kiss a Frog. There are also brands in there that even we’ve not come across before, so you’ll be sure to pick up some really unique pieces at Shan and Toad.
The connecting factor is fine craftsmanship and refinement whether the style is classical and contemporary. From the infant to the young teen, you can be sure to find pieces to transform your little toad! Here are some of our favourites.
We love Shana’s choice of Miss Rykiel pieces, including a dress showing little Miss Rykiel wearing a furry coat, striped socks, and furry boots. Just charming with its subtle a-line shape adding a swingy flair, and a cosy turtle neck. We must also mention the faux fur skirt with polar bear face!! Sweet as a nut.
Litte Marc Jacobs
The AW13 collection from Little Marc Jacobs is just lovely. In particular enjoying the contrast pleated skirt with its top layer of charcoal grey pleats supporting a border of brightest red. The blue glittery dress would be my choice for fluxlings #1 this year, with its cute waist, pleats and Peter Pan collar. Or would it be the black jersey dress with gold trim and buttons!? Just gorgeous. For boys, the crimson puffer coat is just super cool, and loving the red and white gingham shirt with removable tie.
Caramel Baby and Child
Shana has chosen some great staple pieces alongside the more dramatic pieces, and Caramel is one label that always stands out for winter knits in the most beautiful shades. Check out the Naddle Baby Dungarees with little braces all in soft soft merino wool.
We’re always excited to discover a new label, and on a bohemian vintage tip, we’re loving the NORO collection at Shan and Toad. For boys and girls, the fabrics are luxurious and relaxed, and the styling is traditional and fresh. The Vadim shirt for boys is tissue light, with a granddad collar, bib front and white trim which teamed with the woven, striped Gus trousers make a stand out pairing for your little man. For the girls we just love the Clochette Skirt which comes in different textured fabrics (our favourite is the navy and white jacquard) with drawstring waist finished with oversized pompom.
Another newbie for fluxlings, we love these wonderfully unique shoes by Sonatina that use a tweed-herringbone fabric in a classic oxford lace-up and a ribbon tied style for girls.
The cotton velvets, flannels, gauzes and jerseys form a range of warm and soft fabrics for this April Showers winter 2013 collection which is new to Shan and Toad this season. The colours are just amazing with bright ochres, lemons, ink blues and cool greens. Hand-knitted cardigans, clogs with fringes and tie-dye printed blouses add a dash of vintage to the look. We love the Mai rich green velvet dress, with cinched in elasticated waist, and the Milo Sweatshirt in dark grey/ khaki, tie dyed with drawstring bottom.
Fantastic to see a great selection by Roksanda Ilincic in the selection. A Shan and Toad favourite for Autumn/Winter 2013, the Trevillas black silk dress has an empire curved seam, contrast plaid sleeves and a tiny purple bow perched at the neck. We also adore the contrast fluorescent pieces – the Hollicombe Dress is fluoro green against purple and the Ives Dress is classic navy with a popping fluoro orange collar.
New to Shan and Toad this season, Lamantine is a beautiful collection of dresses with remarkable detail created in Paris by Italian designer, Sabrina Vedeo. Our favourite piece is the Calcite Dress in chocolate brown dress with an elevated collar, pleated inset contrast panel, and stone buttons at the cuffs. We’re also loving the Crystal De Roche Dress in yellow, silk with a pleated bib-front and a thin blue ribbon pulling in the waist. For little girls who like sparkles, there’s the Amethyste Dress with pleats emerging from the front neckline, lace trim at the hem with large crystals and beading sewn in.
