Swedish brand, Didriksons, provide high level technical winter wear especially for kids.
In 1913, Julius and Hanna Didrikson started manufacturing oil garments in Grundsund, Sweden, where, on the rim of Scandinavia’s western coastline, there was a constant need from the local fishing industry.
Over the years, there have been many developments in the production of the brand’s outerwear resulting in today’s products made of breathable materials that have revolutionized the rainwear market. So with their Swedish heritage, and the arrival of the wet and cold winter weather, we thought it would be great to get the fluxlings kitted out in some winter togs, so were more than happy to give Didriksons kids’ designs a try.
The Kathleen Parka for girls is a great choice. When ours arrived, I was immediately impressed by the weight of it. This is a real winter parka – not a fashion-lite version. The Kathleen is a thigh length coat, cut longer at the back for added style. It is classified using Didriksons really useful category system as Stormsystem, that means is it 100% waterproof and windproof. This is a really stylish and functional coat padded and comfortable, with a faux-fur back making it really soft to wear. It has an adjustable hem and waist, adjustable cuffs and additional elasticated cuffs so no wind is going in anywhere! The hood is detachable, and features a lovely soft fur trim (that is also detachable if you like). There are loads of pockets – inside and outside too for all those hidden necessities.
The style is great – ours is charcoal with silver studs, and the cut is not sacrificed for the function. Our fluxling #1, now 8, had said she wanted a duffel coat this winter, but now she has this she no longer cares. It is so comfortable and warm, when I mentioned the duffel she just shrugged – I think this is a favourite.
For fluxling #2 – our four year old little boy – we chose the Theron Coverall (£95.00) one piece. It features all over warmth and dryness with the signature Didriksons waterproof, windproof and safety features. He is a real snow and water fan, so we thought it would be great for him to be kitted out ready for some great winter play without having to worry about the cold and the wet. The Theron certainly fits the bill here. Again, when you pick it up you are struck by the quality and the weight of the coverall. Having said that, it is still easy to get on and off, even with the internal built-in gaiter (so we are not worried about wet socks). It’s adjustable all over – which was good as it is maybe just a little big for the little man right now, but at least it will fit him next year too!
Again, we love the style of this. The colour is his favourite bright red (poppy), and it also comes in Pool Wave which is a great shade of blue. The hood is, like the parka, detachable with detachable fur trim. It’s not restrictive at all when it comes to running around, allowing maximum fun in the warm.
Didriksons heritiage and experience really shines through with their outerwear. The range for kids covers everything you could ever want when it comes to winterwear, from coats to jackets to outer pants, to thermal under layers and hats and gloves. This is a brand who have thought about just about everything when it comes to winter wear for kids. We are certainly going to have very happy kids when we’re out and about in the cold and wet this season! Highly recommended.
