Didriksons: Keeping out the Cold

Swedish brand, Didriksons, provide high level technical winter wear and their range especially for kids is just fantastic. With their Swedish heritage, and the arrival of the wet and cold winter weather, we were more than happy when we were invited to give Didriksons kids’ designs a try.

In 1913, Julius and Hanna Didrikson started manufacturing oil garments in Grundsund, Sweden, where, on the rim of Scandinavia’s western coastline, there was a constant need from the local fishing industry. Over the years, there have been many developments in the production of the brand’s outerwear resulting in today’s products made of breathable materials that have revolutionized the rainwear market.

A Didrikons coat is a wonderful cocoon for kids. Looking great, but more importantly, protecting them from the weather, the coats are technically brilliant and have loads of built in practicalities to help get them through the winter without feeling it!

Our five year old little man went for the Nokosi kid’s parka in peat – a throwback green from parkas of the 1980s. This is a super, vintage-look lined parka with reflectives on both sleeves and back, as well as gorgeously thick, detachable synthetic fur on the hood. At the front of the jacket there are four chunky storage pockets and the inside has soft pile-lining to give a comfortable feeling against the body. Didriksons have thought of everything in their designs. This style features their “Extend size” feature, that allows you to extend the sleeves to get an extra year out of these wonderful coats that will still be looking great next year so long as they fit.

The choice of our nine year old growing girl was the Ambu girl’s jacket (although she was torn between this and the Joan coat which also looks great). The Ambu has an inner snap away snow skirt and detachable synthetic fur on the hood, large front pockets, a fitted waist in the rear and a stylish rounded and split rear bottom edge.

Everything from the fabric, to the design, construction and details, utilises Didriksons’ expertise in technical outerwear and waterproofing. There is just no way that your child is getting wet under these coats! All the coats feature the Didrikson STORMsystem and will withstand the harshest, most stormy weather conditions. The coats have all sorts of great features too that you’ll get only with outerwear pros like Didriksons. Adjustable hoods, adjustable sleeve ends, chin guards, inner elasticated cuffs, inside gaiters and inner stash pockets are just some of the things you can look out for. Colour choice varies with the style, but look out for shades like navy, peat, burnt glow (a mustardy yellow), amaranth purple, ruby, pond blue.
